Snowflakes keep fallin' on my head...

We have had snow flurries several days here this past week! I woke up Monday morning to find a little bit of accumulated snow in the creases of rooftops around the neighborhood, on our BBQ pit, the swings & our slide! I was able to catch a few pics of some of the snowflakes. I am amazed at the detail of each individual flake!

On Christmas Eve of 2004 (Grace's first Christmas) it snowed about 12'' at our home in Victoria, TX. We were leaving to celebrate Christmas with Darren's family. As we loaded up our 4-Runner I noticed several snowflakes that had fallen on my jacket were perfect in their shape! I was amazed! I had never really seen a snowflake up close...living in South Texas doesn't provide that opportunity on a regular basis! It looked as if God had a little snowflake punch & was punching them out of a sheet of ice & sending them to earth. Just so you know, it continued to snow that day & we woke up with our first ever white Christmas!! In fact it was the very first white Christmas ever in Victoria, Texas and the first time it had snowed 12'' since February of 1895! Simply amazing!!

This past Thursday we had a 50% chance of snow showers. While it did snow, we didn't receive any accumulation but we did get to experience the thrill of the white stuff steadily falling from the sky! Both yesterday morning & this morning we had snow flurries. In fact, as I am typing this we are still seeing flurries fall. Unfortunately it is so dry outside that it evaporates quickly after landing. I was able to capture a few more pics of the details of a snowflake! From what I can tell there are no 2 snowflakes alike! I am amazed at the detail put into each one. If God cares about the detail of a simple snowflake, how much more does He care about the details in my life. This reminder has been one that I've needed this week! Hope you enjoy the pics of snowflakes as much as I have!!

Happy New Year!!

Our NYE plans were very laid back this year. We usually celebrate by inviting some friends over for the evening, but this year we had to lay low & do our own thing.

Darren & I started off the day with a trip to Southaven because I had an appointment to see an endocrinologist. Back in November I had a routine ultrasound of my thyroid & they found several nodules on it. So they referred me to an endocrinologist so that they could take a closer look to see what was going on. I ended up having 6 biopsies taken. The doctor said that the right side of my thyroid was "ratty" looking...her term, not ours! She looked at the cells gathered during the biopsies & the ones from the right side were indicative of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Basically, your immune system attacks your thyroid resulting in an underactive thyroid gland. It is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States. So, she did some blood work to check my antibodies to see if this is in fact what was going on. We will find out the results sometime next week.

Once we finished at the doctor we stopped for some yummy Mexican food at On the Border & then made our way home to the kiddos, who were spending the day with our friend, Mrs. Frankie. Grace was very excited to ring in the New Year. We bought party hats, noise makers & sparkling grape juice earlier in the week for our "party"! Since we were pretty worn out from the day we celebrated the New Year several hours early! Darren moved the clock forward so that it read "12:00" & Grace thought that was so fun. We set the oven timer for 10 seconds & counted down so we could shout out "Happy New Year"!!

We look forward to all that 2010 holds! Happy New Year to you!!
