Meet Toby!

We have a new addition to our family. Last week we surprised the kiddos with a 10 week old Golden Retriever named Toby!!

In Mississippi we had a wonderful cat named Clara Belle, but we knew that when we moved we would not be able to take "CB" with us. :( Now, 2 years ago that wouldn't have mattered to us because we weren't "cat people", but since welcoming "CB" into our lives in October of 2008 we grew to love that crazy, ol' cat! (Darren found Clara Belle on the side of the rode one morning on the way to work. We ended up adopting her & she lived in our garage. We are both allergic to cats so she couldn't be an inside cat. She is THE BEST cat I have ever met! I promise you she has some major dog-like tendencies....just ask our former across the street neighbors, the Vega's!! I blogged about finding Clara Belle back in October 2008, so check it out! Oh, & don't worry about Clara Belle...she is living a posh lifestyle with our former next door neighbor's now!)

Here are a few pics in honor of Clara Belle!

Anyway, once we realized we were going to have to leave Clara Belle behind we decided we would get a dog...a Golden Retriever in particular. When Grace learned this she wanted to name our soon-to-be dog "Comet" after the dog on Full House. We were all for that until we found Toby! Toby's owner had already named the pups in order to keep up with them at the vet's office. She offered to start calling him by a different name if we wanted, but once we saw a picture of Toby, we felt like the name really fit him. So, Grace settled for naming him "Toby Comet Lehrmann".

Luke fell in love with Toby from the start. He sits beside him & tells us that they are best friends! :) Grace has warmed up to him & is getting used to his puppy-like ways. She says she can't wait until he's a bit older, though! :) He is your typical puppy...likes to play, chew & run around like crazy. We are currently working on crate training & house training him. He is doing really well with the crate & is even showing some great progress with house training. It has been a long time since I've had a puppy in the house, so it has taken me some time to get used to the routine that you have to be in. It's like having a baby in the house again! Next on the list is leash training. He is not fond of the leash, which isn't fun for us at all! I will be taking him through dog obedience training at the end of the month...should be an interesting experience to say the least!

Stay tuned for more blogging on Toby!!
