Last Wednesday & Thursday the temps got into the 30's, then you add rain & sleet in with that & you've got a bunch of people running to take cover...buying all sorts of provisions to keep them warm & well fed in case we get trapped in our homes for all of 30 minutes during the ice/sleet/snowstorm that the weathermen have predicted! Schools began to close early or all day in case of the storm that was headed our way. I was secretly hoping for snow (along with every other student who got of school)! However, it never happened. The ice certainly came & it was very, very cold but we never saw anything white fluttering out of the sky. I know my kids were upset, but that didn't stop us from having fun!! Actually, I think Grace got over being upset since she got to have a 4 day weekend (they were already scheduled to be out of school on Monday for a teacher workday)!!
After Luke & I picked up Grace on Thursday afternoon we braved the crazy crowds at the nearest store & loaded up on all sorts of things to help make our snow day fun. Our no snow, snow day started off with yummy, warm cinnamon rolls. However, my kids weren't interested! Seriously, I don't know who they belong to!! :) About mid-morning we made rice krispie treats to eat with our hot chocolate. Grace was happy for this treat. Luke, on the other hand, was not because the rice krispie treat was sticky & he's not a fan of his hand getting sticky!! We watched movies, Nick Jr, the Disney Channel & all sorts of tv! We made a big blanket tent! We ate yummy rainbow popsicles! We played games! We hung out in our pajamas all day! We just had a good ol' time!! :)
That afternoon, Darren surprised us by coming home a few hours early! The kids always love that treat! We surprised the kids with some Insta-Snow that we had gotten a few years ago when we went skiing in Lake Tahoe! (I was so thankful I saved one back for a "snowy day"!!) The last time we played with Insta-Snow Grace had a blast & Luke couldn't have cared less. Once again, his hands & feet got dirty as a result of the "snow" so he left it alone. This time he got into it & enjoyed making a snowy mess right alongside his big sister!
