So, now we will play catch up in a summer review post for each month.
We'll start with June. Now I did blog about a few things in June, but did not finish the month out.
The 3rd week of June Darren & I headed to Playa del Carmen, Mexico to celebrate him turning the big 4-0 later on in the summer. The kids went to "Camp Nana & Papa" in Victoria! They were quite excited about the fun they would have (that will be a blog post of it's own once I get pics from my mom)!
I will admit that I was a bit nervous about traveling to Mexico, even though I was reassured many times that it was safe. Darn media (although I must add that the "media" is what pays our bills)! :) It really was an uneventful experience when we look back now. You have the extra precautions being taken by both airports (meaning I got frisked before being able to board the plane...randomly selected, I might add)! Being in a foreign country can be dangerous any way you look at it...whether you are in Mexico or London. We just made sure we were smart!
We had a fun time & it was great to get away...just the 2 of us. The weather didn't quite cooperate the first few days, but it was still paradise regardless. We shopped, ate out, walked along the beach, took naps EVERY day, lounged by the pool, snorkled, read, watched movies and just had a very relaxing time!
We ventured out one day to Selvatica to zip line & swim in a cenote (fresh water, natural pool). That was probably the best day for both of us! Zip lining was on both of our bucket lists, so we were both excited. I will admit that I was a bit nervous. The guides that were with us left no time for us to be nervous. Once we were all attached the line we were off & away...zipping through the jungles of Mexico! By zip line number 3 we were both zipping UPSIDE DOWN (with a guide with us, I might add)! I went in saying "I will not go upside down"! Ha!! I am so glad I did!! Of course, there was no photographer there to capture the moment, but we did get a t-shirt to prove we did go upside down!! :) I would definitely zip line again & would encourage anyone going to the Cancun area (or anywhere close by) to check out Selvatica...you will not be disappointed!
One of our other favorite days was when we took a bus to Akumal Beach. We had heard great things about the snorkeling at Akumal. We geared up & headed out to snorkel. We both LOVE to snorkel! There is just something about being up close & personal with that part of God's creation that excites me. We were disappointed simply because we didn't see any turtles on our first time out, but we planned to try again after lunch. However, our plans changed when we discovered Darren's snorkel equipment was gone (our stuff was less than 15 from where we were eating lunch). So, we left without seeing any sea turtles up close & personal. I'll just have to keep that one on my bucket list!! Akumal Beach is definitley gorgeous & if we are ever in that area again we will definitely hit it up for some snorkeling! (Oh & I must mention that while we didn't see sea turtles we did see things we weren't prepared for in that there were some Europeaners on Akumal...if you know anything about their beach attire...or lack there of...you will understand what we saw!)
We were thankful for the opportunity to go off as a couple, but we missed the kiddos! We were excited to get home & get back to our crazy life as a family of four.

So JEALOUS!!! I can't wait for the day we can get away! I know that it is in His time and His will, but I do pray it is His will...and soon. ha! Looks like paradise!
