The Big Move!

Well, we are officially Texans again! We made the 6 hour (not including stops) journey to Beaumont, TX the Monday after Easter. Darren was driving the loaded down, 24ft truck & I was driving the kids in the rental car. (My 18 month old car's transmission went out the Thursday before so we were forced to leave it in Greenville to be fixed!) We rolled out of town about 10:00am! There weren't many tears, which I was thankful for! I was prepared with a new pair of sunglasses for both kids just in case! They were excited to get them & wore them for most of the trip! We stopped for lunch at McDonald's (the fast food restaurant of any kid's choice!). About 5 hours into the journey I began to feel sick. I was achy & my lower back was killing me. I happened to have the thermometer in the front seat with me & so I checked my temp. I was running 101 fever! Wow, talk about great timing! :( Thankfully, the kids were great for the last few hours of the trip. As soon as we pulled into the apartment complex I found a corner in the master bedroom, turned on the TV for the kiddos & curled up on the floor. Darren had some of his co-workers who came to help unload the truck, which I am thankful for. Now, there was not much rhyme & reason to where boxes were put, but the big furniture was placed in the correct rooms. We settled in for the night & were all asleep in the master bedroom by 9:00pm!

The next morning I woke up without fever, but with a sinus infection. Luke woke up with pink eye. Oh the joy! By the end of the week we were all sniffling & sneezing & Grace had gotten pink eye! Lovely, huh?!

The task of unpacking boxes & placing furniture in it's new spots came over the course of the next week. There are about 6 boxes that are still packed, but I have stashed them away in different closets & corners since we don't really need anything in them. Going from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment has been a tight squeeze, even though we brought only 1/2 of our belongings! We have made it work & now can call our cozy apartment our "home"!

The kids are adjusting well. Grace has had some behavior issues, but we are trying to work through those. She is finally realizing that she won't be a part of things like her Kindergarten Graduation & dance recital. It has caused a few tears here & there, but overall she is doing well. Luke was asking to go to "Mommy's house" (which is what he called our house in Mississippi), but he has finally stopped that. I have tried to make their surroundings as familiar as possible. We have discovered some fun things to do each day and that always helps. The apartment complex has a great resort-style pool which the kids LOVE! There is also a playground area in the back that we have visited a time or two since we discovered it. The clubhouse makes cookies each day & has a media room with a huge screen TV that you can go & watch movies on. Plus, we have already visited Chuck E. Cheese, Build-a-Bear, Target & the mall!

Here are a few pics of our new "home"! We are looking forward to this new journey! Our motto is still the same as it was in Greenville...

"Bloom where you're planted!"
